BRIEF: Mary Caitrin Mahoney, White House intern, executed. SUMMARY: For those not from around DC, it is partly a spoke-and-wheel design, with long roads emanating from DC and sometimes extending for miles. One such road is Maryland Route 355, which is colloquially known as Frederick Road, Urbana Pike, Rockville Pike, "The Pike," Hungerford Drive, Wisconsin Avenue, and just plain old three-fifty-five. It's an old road that goes from the very heart of Georgetown (the terminus of the C&O Canal) in Washington, DC all the way north to Frederick, Maryland.
Over the years, many strange things have happened along this road and nearby to either side. Probably countless strange things. But the strangest thing occured in hot July, 1997 and it involved a pretty, 25-year-old White House intern named Mary Caitrin Mahoney who was working at the Georgetown Starbucks coffee shop late one night. Attackers broke in, stole nothing, but reportedly shot Mary, laying face-down, in the back of the head five times at close range. Two other employees were killed in a similar execution style. Some dupe was caught and confessed, but many believe the story does not add up; including the fact that Mary was a White House intern in the Clinton Administration. BRIEF: Children raped and killed by teacher SUMMARY: In 1932 There were 9 children raped and killed by a teacher, James McCoy. The next morning the janitor found 4 of them in the gymnasium, 3 in different classrooms, and 2 in the janitor's closet. Nowadays kids hear balls bouncing and children walking and talking in empty halls. BRIEF: Ghost train SUMMARY: The Old Depot was built by the Cumberland and Pennsylvania Railroad Company in 1891 as a passenger and freight station. Two passenger trains ran daily from Cumberland to Piedmont via Frostburg ending service in 1942. In 1973, the abandoned building was renovated in 1989 as a restaurant and shops to accommodate the public and passengers of the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad steam passenger train; the restaurant is currently closed. The site also houses the Thrasher Museum, which boast a variety of rail carriages on display.
